Our Story

In 1979, Ed Jones had a vision to create Chattanooga’s premier health food and supplements store. Starting with humble beginnings, Nutrition World has become known in the community as the most knowledgeable source for all things related to natural health and nutrition. Ed partnered with his daughter, Cady, and the rest of the staff, have helped Nutrition World develop into an industry leader. Nutrition World would not be who we are today without the faithful support of our wonderful customers.

1979

Ed Jones started Nutrition World at Four Squares Mall on Mountain Creek Road

1981

We moved to our second location, Brainerd Village, where we grew the business for nearly 25 years!

1982

Average daily sales were only $120 and it took 3 years before we broke a $200 day. We jumped for joy on that day!

1984

Nutrition World was intimately involved in the passing of the DSHEA (the bill that made it legal to advise and sell nutritional supplements in 1984.

1986

We brought in Mr. Universe Lance Dreher to the YMCA to meet customers and fans.

1994

Catherine Thomas, licensed massage therapist, began her practice at Nutrition World with deep tissue and lymphatic massage.

1998

The Platinum Card was introduced. It gave members who joined an everyday discount of 20% on almost everything at Nutrition World for an annual fee of only $10.

1999

Ed began his partnership with the TV show 3 Plus You, featured on Chattanooga’s local NBC channel, where he appeared monthly to update Chattanooga on current health topics.

2000

Mackie Pierre of Maxx Fitness joined us with his personal training expertise.

2004

Nutrition World started offering consultations with physician Dr. Terry Smith on Saturdays. We were the first and only health store to be able to offer access to a medical doctor’s expertise in store.

April 15 2004

Ed Jones unofficially set the world record for the amount of chin ups in 1 hour, a total of 285. (The only reason it was unofficial was because Guinness requires two cameras and he only had one, though he had two TV stations and people observing.)

2005

Dr. Brett Wheatcroft, DC, joined us to offer chiropractic services with his unique and effective Graston Technique.

2005

Ed jumped rope in July for one hour straight in front of Nutrition World with the radio station WGOW broadcasting.

2007

Jack Lalanne, nutrition legend, was brought to Nutrition World to meet with our customers.

2007

We became the first health store in the country to offer the innovative Ideal Protein Weight Loss program to customers.

2008

Nutrition World moved to our current location on Lee Highway where we continue to live out our mission statement of walking with people on their journey to better health.

2014

A partnership with Circle of Life Family Medicine was formed which allowed us to have a place to send our customers for blood work and further help.

2014

We renewed our focus for being Chattanooga’s holistic health lecture center with bi-weekly events and lectures.

2017

Wellness Rewards began to offer our customers increased value and savings to go along with our exceptional service.

2018
Coming Soon 

Chattanooga’s Wellness Corner will be launched to offer holistic services such as acupuncture, counseling, midwifery, personal training, Circle of Life Medicine, thermography screenings and chiropractic care.
